My husband bought this mug for me at the airport in Miami on our return from Brazil in August. Soon it will be time to board the airplane again! We will be flying from winter to summer, so I better be ready for that thermal shock on my body! I’m always happy to return to our home and work in the southern hemisphere but sad to part with friends and family in the northern hemisphere! It is part of my story though.
It’s part of the history behind the face in my Mug Shot.
Some mugs have a story behind them that make them more special. The double meaning of a mug shot can also be applied to the fact that each person has their own special story. One of my favorite things in life is hearing the stories behind each “mug”.
What’s inside the mug is another part of the story…similarly, what’s inside of you and me adds character to our stories. A mug shot is usually taken to identify someone, usually for being arrested or charged with a crime.
What identifies you? We can laugh at the play on words, especially if we are a fan of coffee or tea; but, on a more serious note, what is in your mug–what’s behind the face in the photo? I hope that in sharing I also learn more about you. Our specialness doesn’t require having the most stylish, most expensive, or most unique mug. God has made each of us with our own special character. We are made in His likeness and are a reflection of Him, but we are each also a unique and valuable creation.
I do enjoy hearing and seeing originality, creativity and genuinely interesting character shine through in individuals.
The following verse is key to understanding how to let good things shine through on your “Mug Shot” as others look on your outward appearance:
1 Samuel 16:7 KJV – But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart
I hope that this day has is a great time for you to be identified as a Christian by the loving attitude that is on display in the mug shot you leave impressed on the hearts of others. The choice is ours to make. Our choices play a big part in how we are perceived by others.
Proverbs 22:1-29 KJV – A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
○ If someone took your mug shot today, would it identify you as a follower of Jesus Christ?
○ How do you choose to be identified?
My prayer today is that we, as Christians, are all identified by our love, kindness and gratitude as we bear the Fruit of the Spirit in our daily walk with the Lord.
God wants to use you to accomplish His will so others can see evidence of answered prayers.
